Greaser fashion emerged in the fifties. Cuffed jeans, white t-shirts, and motorcycle jackets were the uniforms for young males. I loved the effortlessly classic style greasers had while maintaining an edginess.

For this look I went for an updated greaser vibe. I chose my favorite pair of jeansโ€•they are thrifted Calvin Kleins (and were highkey a splurge for a thrift store: $20). The perfect light-washed tone and all natural distressing. The black longsleeve I tucked into the jeans was actually cut and sewn by me! Fun-fact: T-shirts are my favorite article of clothing to make. Instead of going for a my classic leather moto-jacket, I decided to throw on this moto-vest version. This vest is one of my favorite items in my wardrobe and the struggle I went through to actually purchase it was... Cue story-time:

I used to work at an outlet mall during the beginning of my senior year in high school. Many stores come and go in that particular mall so it wasn't unusual to see store closing sales. From the very first day I worked, Kenneth Cole had already started their store closing sales. The sales weren't that great at first because they had started markdowns so early from their actual closing date. One day on my lunch break, I browsed through the store's items to see if there was anything that caught my eye. That's when I saw it... The beautiful leather vest. It was like a "hallelujah" moment: a choir started singing and lights from above shined down on it. The choir came to a halt when I saw the price. It was almost $400, even after their discount. I walked out of the store so fast, highkey bummed.

A few weeks passed and each week the percentages off their items increased. I told myself to wait until the last moment to go back and check if the vest was there and if it was then it was meant to be. In their final week of operation, the sale went to 90% off. B@#*H!!! I was ecstatic! On my break I ran to the store and it was utter chaos. Although they cleared out most of their fixtures and merchandise, clothing was on the floor, and people were ravaging through the remains. I spotted a rolling rack. There they were. The last two vests. I ran so fast, I'm lucky I didn't push anyone out of the way. Praise!!! The vest was in my size and the final price was around $40. I practically stole it, considering the original price tag LOL. (Side-note: I forgot my wallet at home so I was frantically trying to get ahold of my mom to come through w/ my wallet and buy the vest because I had to go back to work. Long story short, she came in clutch and bless the employee who put the vest on hold even though she wasn't supposed to. They were the real MVPs of this story!) Fin.

Converse might have been the more standard approach for a greaser look but I've been loving my Air Force 1s lately, and I felt like they kept up with the modern greaser vibe I was trying to go for.

If you're in college and already started Spring Semester I hope it's going as good as it possibly can. If you're working I hope you're trying to enjoy it and not stressing too muchโ€•collect your check though! To everyone: I hope you continue to thrive and dream and pursue your goals. Stay wholesome!

All my love,

Ben

P.S. I shaved my head. I'm currently liking it but in a few days I'm sure I'll decide to grow my hair back.
